Next Meeting

22nd October 2018
AGM
The AGM of the Wear Valley Woodturners will take place at Bearpark community centre on Monday 22nd October at 6-30 pm. Any notices, submissions, rule or constitution changes, appointments, resignations or agenda items should be submitted in writing to the secretary at least two weeks prior to the date of the AGM. Please come and support your club.

Also, choose six items, turned by Club members, for entry into the annual Border Woodturners Inter-club Competition, to be held at Brampton on Sunday 28th October.

Calendar of Events (2018)

All evening meetings (unless specified otherwise), are held on the 3rd Monday in the Month, 6.30 - 9.00 pm (doors open at 6.00pm), at the Bearpark Community Centre DH7 7AG, but please check regularly for updates and alterations to the venue or timetable.

Starting in 2018, "Hands On" mornings for Club members will be held between 9.00am - Midday at the same venue as our evening meetings. See below for dates.
The aim of the Hands-On mornings is to provide the opportunity for members to practise on the club lathes and equipment techniques and skills which they wish to develop. It will also be an opportunity for discussion on methods, problem solving etc. It is your opportunity to develop and learn from other club members. We will ask in the preceding weeks what you want to cover. Please give this your support.

19th February 2018

Hands On Night.
The February meeting is a hands on night when the aim is for members to get involved on the lathes etc., and to have discussions with other members. Please feel free to bring items along to discuss whether they are problematical or a great success!
There will be a sale table so if anyone has surplus gear to sell, feel free to fetch it along

4th August 2018

9.00am – 12.00 “Hands On” Morning.

We have a number of workshops running such as:

  • Making and using spheres for puzzles, bowls etc
  • Thread turning both with jig and using hand tools
  • String painting
  • Router lathe turning
  • Pen making

In addition to getting hands on with these workshops it is also an opportunity to discuss/resolve woodturning issues.

Andrew Maxwell will be bringing some wood for sale, as well as a sphere turning tool, tool sharpening jig and grindstone.

Andrew is assisting Steve Hirst's wife with clearing his workshop and there will be tools, equipment and further wood for sale over the next few weeks, equipment will be advertised on the WVWT website but if you have any particular requirement please have a word with me. The wood I will bring to the next few club meetings.

20th August 2018

Note that this is a change of demonstrator as Dave Lowe who was originally booked, cancelled his engagement with us.
